The 2011/2012 racing season at Meydan was an overwhelming success that once again brought together some of the world’s greatest horsemen and horses for the Dubai World Cup Carnival and the famed Dubai World Cup.

The 17th running of the Dubai World Cup programme held on March 31 offered not only record prizemoney of US$27.25 million, but also featured a record nine group races.

The world’s richest day in racing was contested by 120 runners, and the 2012 Dubai World Cup belonged to Monterosso (GB).

Owned by the Godolphin Stables, trained by Mahmoud Al Zarooni, and ridden by Mickael Barzalona, Monterosso earned an exciting three-length win over stable mate Capponi (IRE).

This impressive finish gave Godolphin Stables and Al Zarooni the distinction as the first owner and trainer to finish first and second in the Dubai World Cup. The world-class night of racing provided another fantastic chapter to the story of the Dubai World Cup.

The Dubai Racing Club and Meydan now look forward as preparations are underway for the 2012/2013 season and the 18th renewal of the Dubai World Cup.

Meydan Racecourse
