CITY STYLE (USA) was a late scratching at 5:15pm after the gelding was found to be lame in the right fore when being prepared to be transported to the racecourse. Trainer Mr S bin Suroor was advised that a Veterinary Certificate would be required prior to the gelding being permitted to be entered to race again. BALCARCE NOV (ARG) (T Durcan), AL MUHEER (IRE) (J Spencer) and SIROCCO BREEZE (GB) (R Hills) were slow into stride. BEAUCHAMP VICEROY (GB) (K Desormeaux) and SILVERSIDE (USA) (L Dettori) came together on jumping. Shortly after the start, ABBASHIVA (GER) (A Ajtebi) commenced to race fiercely, ran inwards and at the 1300m when linking up with the course proper, ran out away from the running rail abruptly. MUNADDAM (USA) (N Yokoyama) and MARCHING (AUS) (C Lemaire) were both impeded for clear running over the concluding 150m.

Rounding the home bend, ANZAS (IRE) was momentarily restrained when DUBAI MIRACLE (USA) shifted outwards away from BLACK SNOWFLAKE (USA) (R Ffrench). MONTE ALTO (IRE) (R Hills) was crowded at the start between FRONT HOUSE (IRE) (T Durcan) and JAROSLAW (SAF) (C Brown). ROMAN’S RUN (USA) (A Ajtebi) raced keenly in the early stages. MONTE ALTO (IRE) was held up for clear running rounding the home bend and shortly after straightening shifted outwards crowding HATTAN (IRE) (A Gryder) onto FIERY LAD (IRE) (L Dettori). Jockey R Hills (MONTE ALTO [IRE]) was reprimanded for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(vii) for hitting his horse with the whip without giving it time to respond. When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of ROMAN REPUBLIC (FR), Jockey K Desormeaux stated that after missing the break he was positioned further back than he had anticipated and the lack of pace in the event had not suited ROMAN REPUBLIC (FR). A post race veterinary examination of ROMAN REPUBLIC (FR) revealed no abnormalities. Following the running of this race, Jockey O Peslier became indisposed and was examined by the Club’s doctor and declared unfit to fulfill his remaining riding engagement.

ECHOES ROCK (GER) (P Dobbs) dwelt on jumping and lost ground. IMBONGI (SAF) (C Soumillon) and RIO DE LA PLATA (USA) (L Dettori) were slow into stride. SNAAFY (USA) (R Hills) jumped awkwardly. Leaving the 200m, SNAAFY (USA) was disappointed for a run between DUNELIGHT (IRE) (R Moore) and YASOODD (GB) (W Buick), both which shifted ground slightly. Jockey C Soumillon (IMBONGI [SAF]) was fined AED 2500 and suspended from riding in races for 2 days (Abu Dhabi 14th March and Jebel Ali 19th March, 2010) for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(vii) for hitting his horse with the whip without giving it time to respond.
